Our Goal
We strive to produce quality dogs in accordance with the SV and AKC standard. Our dogs are well rounded, well tempered, and capable of a variety of tasks and jobs. On top of their balanced dispositon, we aim to produce dogs with proper stucture and color. We are very passionate about the betterment of our breed, and therefore beleive in the importance of proving our breeding stock through show and sport. All our dogs must not only prove themselves healthy through riggerous health testing, but must also prove they have the desired disposition through earning titles. All our dogs must prove themselves before being bred in order to provide the healthiest and happiest puppies for our clients. We want all our puppies to fit in perfectly with their forever homes!
About Us
While we have only been breeding for about two years, we are being mentored by several amazing kennels, trainers, and vets in order to ensure our adherence to quality puppies. We are working hard to make a place for ourselves within the community as we continue to join clubs and work our dogs. Overall, the betterment of the German shepherd is a team effort and we are very greatful for all those who have helped us get to where we are.
Who are we?
I am Emily Gladfelter, the breeder behind Hausgladfel. I had dreamed about owning German shepherds for many years before even meeting my husband, Matthew Gladfelter. Many people ask me why I chose to get so involved with German shepherds. Ever since I can remember, I've wanted to own a GSD, but my parents were never keen on the idea of a large dog. funnily enough, I grew up with Chihuahuas because of this. Naturally, I spent years researching the breed and learning as much as I could about them. My uncle and a few of my friends had GSDs, which only deepend my adoration for the breed. As soon as I moved out of my parents home, I bought my first GSD.
Unfortunatly, I was diagnosed with several autoimmune diseases from a very young age, so my first shepherd became my service dog. Working with and training her taught me so much about the breed and really created a stong passion for the betterment of the breed. Despite all my prior research, Evie was not a well bred dog and had a multitude of issues I had to work through with her. Because of this, I determined that my next dog would be from an ethical breeder.
The more I looked into the correct way to breed GSD, the more interested I became. Once it came time to get my next dog, I was enthralled with the idea of show and sport. And so the sprial into crazy dog lady began! I quickly fell in love with the comunity and the puzzle of breeding. There are so many more intricacies than I ever could have imaged. The more I showed and sported my dogs, the more I knew that this is what I was supposed to do.
My husband on the other hand, had no idea what he was marrying into! Luckily, he has been the most amazing and supportive partner I could've asked for. While he still doesn't understand many aspects of breeding the dogs, he is working hard to learn and support me in my endevors.
Socializing
We recognize the importance of socializing puppies from a young age. In order to set our dogs up for success, we expose them to as much as possible before sending them home to their new families. Our puppies are handled from day one. Before they open their eyes, we are messing with their feet, petting and loving on them, touching their faces, etc. Once puppies start walking, they are exposed to a variety of different textures and scents. Our adult dogs also get to help socialize the puppies to ensure proper behavior. They also get to meet the cats and chickens to help prepare them for other non dog siblings in their new homes. We begin some basic training with our puppies such as potty training and crate training. They also go on car rides and vet visits amonst many other activites to prepare them as best as possible for their lives.
